US chipmaker Nvidia has announced plans to invest £2bn into the UK’s AI start-up ecosystem, with CEO Jensen Huang calling it the “age of AI.” Companies including Revolut and Wayve are set to benefit.
In a September 18 statement, Nvidia explained that the funding is aimed at advancing AI technologies and generating employment opportunities. Supporting venture capital firms include Accel, Air Street Capital, Balderton Capital, Hoxton Ventures and Phoenix Court.
The company said the capital will support “AI Growth Zones” and leading tech hubs in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester.
This news comes shortly after Nvidia, Microsoft and OpenAI pledged more than $40bn to UK AI development. Microsoft contributed $30bn, its largest-ever UK investment. OpenAI launched Stargate, while Nvidia joined CoreWeave, Nscale and Microsoft to fund AI factories worth $15bn.
Nvidia also disclosed the purchase of $5bn in Intel shares. Both firms will work together on next-generation products for data centres and PCs.
