Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews

Meta is testing a new coding interview format that permits candidates to use AI tools during the evaluation process. Internal communications, verified by 404 Media, indicate the company is recruiting internal employees for mock interviews to help refine the structure.
The move mirrors the increasing reliance on AI assistants and agents across professional settings, especially in software development. By allowing these tools in interviews, Meta aims to replicate the working conditions its engineers face and reduce opportunities for LLM-based cheating.
“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” one internal post explained. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”
A company spokesperson confirmed the trial, noting: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
