Meta Tests Long-Form Text Posts on Threads

Meta has confirmed that Threads is experimenting with a new long-form text feature that allows users to attach extended blocks of text to posts, rather than creating multiple threads.

iOS researcher Radu Oncescu first spotted the feature, which allows users to style longer text creatively for news snippets, book excerpts, or personal reflections. Posts display in a gray box that viewers can click to scroll through, as demonstrated by Robert P. Nickson.

The update could help retain content creators and writers, offering an alternative to blogs or Substack newsletters. Unlike X, which restricts Articles to Premium users, Threads’ text attachments are currently available to all users.

While only text is supported at present, Meta may expand the feature to include multimedia. The addition is part of Threads’ recent series of updates, including DMs, AI enhancements, custom feeds, and fediverse integration, helping it reach 400 million monthly active users, compared to X’s 600 million.
