Meta and Scale AI Partnership Struggling to Hold Together

Since Meta’s $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI this past June, the newly established Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) has been under the leadership of Alexandr Wang and several key executives. However, cracks are already showing in the collaboration.
Ruben Mayer, formerly SVP at Scale AI, left Meta after two months. While some insiders suggested his work was separate from TBD Labs, Mayer confirmed he was part of the lab from the start and left for personal reasons.
In addition, TBD Labs is expanding its data-labeling partnerships beyond Scale AI. Competitors like Surge and Mercor are gaining preference among researchers, who reportedly find their data more reliable, signaling a shift in Meta’s AI strategy.
