Tesla is reportedly behind on its pledge to build 5,000 Optimus bots this year
Tesla has only manufactured a few hundred Optimus robots so far this year, well below its target of 5,000 by the end of 2025. Two individuals familiar with production progress confirmed the figures, casting doubt on whether the company can hit its original timeline.
The update comes after Tesla reported a 12% revenue decline for Q2, citing weaker EV sales and reduced growth in its solar and energy divisions. Elon Musk noted that production of the Optimus 3 design would begin in early 2026.
Despite past missed forecasts, Musk said Tesla still aims to reach a million-unit annual production rate for Optimus bots within five years — calling it a “reasonable aspiration.”
