Amazon disputes report that it raised prices of popular items since Trump took office

Amazon has criticized the Wall Street Journal over a report linking a 5% average rise in prices for 2,500 products to recent tariff policies. The WSJ study covered the period from Trump’s inauguration on January 20 to July 1.
The e-commerce giant called the analysis flawed, saying some of the products highlighted were temporarily discounted at the start of the period. Once promotions ended, prices reverted to normal levels.
Amazon said its dynamic pricing model means costs fluctuate regularly, complicating any one-time price comparison.
Government statistics show overall U.S. consumer prices were up 0.3% in June and 2.7% year-on-year.
